The A-Team: Ink Stamps

I don't remember much about the A-Team stamps that were made in the mid-80's. Who made them...when they came out...how many different ones there were...

As I mentioned in my recent post about A-Team "autographs," the Murdock stamp can be found on the corner of the envelope received from Dwight Schultz -- although, as I said, I'm not positive if that stamp was my doing or compliments of Murdock himself. There are not any other places among the junk from my childhood where I can find evidence of the fact that I even owned the Murdock stamp so I am guessing that Mr. Schultz used this in place of a return address. Although I vaguely remember having the Murdock stamp, there is no question that we owned the B.A. Baracus stamp.

These stamps were small with the ink found inside the round cap. For those who grew up in the 80's, the stamps were much like the ones you would expect to see used by your 2nd grade teacher when you did well on a spelling test; only the teacher version would say "Super Star" or something like that -- nothing cool like an inky Mr. T on your paper.

While I can find nothing on the internet anywhere to show the actual stamp itself, the evidence of the Mr. T stamp being in our house is overwhelming. For example, as I pull out my gradeschool yearbooks, Mr. T appears in the 1982-1983 volume several times. Looking through this photo book, a person might find a picture of me when I was in the 1st grade. At the same time, they might find several Mr. T stamps in such places as hovering over the picture of my school...

...covering the faces of my school's principal and my brother...

Mr. T was even kind enough to sign my yearbook that year...

If anyone has any information about these stamps, especially if you have pictures of the stamps themselves, please chime in.

Tim,
I have a collection of Mr. T stuff and in it I do indeed have some Mr. T stamps. I may even have the same one you show in the picture. I will check.

In the meantime here is a picture of a different Mr. T stamp that made it into my wedding album. As a joke I stamped each groomsman (and myself) with a Mr. T stamp. Finally after a day of the photographer trying in vain to avoid the stamp impressions he gave up and took this picture:

Guy -- That would be amazing if you had that Mr. T stamp! I can picture it in my mind plain as day but would love seeing the actual stamp again!

By the way...love the wedding photo. I can pretty much guarantee my wife wouldn't have allowed a Mr. T presence in our wedding!

I am sorry to say I do not have the same stamp you had, but here are some pictures I took of the stamps I have:

This is a full box I have... I love the box art. Is that a tiny Mr. T holding a regular stamp or is that a regular Mr. T holding a giant stamp?

Here are the 3 different stamps available in the box:

and finally this is the stamp used at my wedding:

I wonder if your stamp was from either of these 2 groups of stamps or if its from a 3rd group of stamps!

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Guy! The stamp I had was pretty similar to the three pictured in that second image. I'd say it came from a 3rd group of stamps -- a line of A-Team stamps. Since there was definitely a Murdoch stamp, I can only assume there were Hannibal and Face stamps as well.

Outstanding photos (with Mr. T stamped on them)! The only one I'm missing is a "Face" stamp from the team. Hard to find!

cagey -- Thanks for stopping by. Your comment is a reminder that I need to get back to this blog very soon!

Hey TL, don't know if you ever found the stamp, but there's a guy on Etsy selling them:

Murdock too:

He also has Hannibal and a different view of Mr. T...

Thanks Shawn -- I actually found the Mr. T stamp a few months back. That Murdock one though...tempting.
