Day 34: Waterfalls vs. Carousels, Steak 'n Shake, 'Melo

The weather this week -- this whole summer, really -- has been pretty terrific. With another gorgeous day ahead of us, my dad and I took the kids to a nearby forest preserve this morning.

We thought we'd let them roam the wooded trails but were disappointed to find that a good majority of the trails were completely overgrown. So after a quick stop at the waterfall before leaving, the kids decided they'd like to go to the mall and ride the carousel instead.

How's that for a night and day contrast -- walking through the woods versus going to the mall?

I thought I'd avoid some interstate construction on the short drive to the mall and set out through some country roads I'd never traveled before -- but I had a pretty good idea where they'd come out. As long as we kept heading the right direction, what could go wrong?

After finding ourselves a full nine miles out of the way, we eventually got to the mall. Nine miles. When we left the forest preserve I don't think we were even nine miles from the mall.

The carousel ride was a blast, of course, as was my dad treating us to lunch at Steak 'n Shake.

But the real news of the day comes from New York City where all signs are pointing towards Carmelo Anthony returning to the Knicks next season.

So to the guy in the Fourth of July parade who heckled me for wearing a Knicks shirt, I say "nanny-nanny boo-boo, stick your head in doo-doo."

The Summer of Tim continues...
