Day 18: Dad Ponytails, Turtles, Government Cheese

Mason. Summer time. That is all.

. . .

Amy is leading some sort of social worky training today and tomorrow so it's 1 on 3 at home for a couple of days. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night, so after a swig from the Nyquil bottle around 1am, it took me a while to shake the haze when the kids were up and ready to go at 7am.

. . .

Today was the first day of basketball camp for the girls which meant they got the dad version of ponytails before they left. Now I know this tactic made for a viral internet video a few years ago and I completely admit to stealing the idea....but it works and it works well when it comes to a dad who's never been good a doing girl hair.

You have to realize, I've had the same haircut for over 20 years because I can do it myself and it's all I know how to do. Unless my girls want their hair buzzed like their dad, this is the next best alternative when mom is gone.

. . .

Basketball camp?

I'm trying hard to get the girls to learn Kurtis Blow's Basketball song and to tell all of their friends at camp that John Starks was the best player in the history of the sport.

So far they're not interested in either.

. . .

While the girls were gone for a few hours, Mason went for a drive in the backyard while I kicked back on the deck.

I never realized just how tall the trees are in our yard until today when I used 3'6" Mason as a point of reference.

. . .

We found a turtle in our yard today.

So there's that.

. . .

I finally got around to ordering the new Government Cheese album a few weeks ago and, after having to contact their merch handlers to find out where my order was, it finally arrived today.

Crappy service or not, it's a pretty great album that stands up well to their stuff from the 80s and 90s. If nothing else, it has one of the best album covers I've seen in a long time.

Here's some classic Cheese for your listening pleasure. I'd suggest not playing it quietly.

. . .

I think I'm going on a date in a few weeks. With two dudes. To an arcade. Stay tuned for more.

. . .

Wrapping up the day, here's the Sugar Hill Gang telling you that it's summer time.

Grab a drink.

Kick back in your lawn chair.
