With the exception of manufactured mainstream country, I'm good with everything from Grandmaster Flash to Marilyn Manson. Specifically, I'm most fond of old school hip-hop and the small-time folk scene.
I like hot coffee and cold beer.
None of this fancy stuff either. Not that I would turn my nose up to a imported stout or a gourmet blend from a local coffee shop, but given the choice I'd take a can of Miller High Life or a cup of instant coffee any day of the week.
I like movies I don't have to think about.
Occasionally I can tolerate a psychological thriller or an action movie here and there, but more often than not, I prefer a movie I can zone out to uttering an occasional grunt of laughter. I don't have the attention span for anything deeper than Super Troopers.
I like sports.
I'm a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Knicks, and the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs!
I like records.
Unlike most people who say they prefer vinyl to digital, I won't pretend that I can tell any difference in sound quality from one recording to the other. I just like that crackle that the needle makes when it first hits the record. It sets the stage for hearing good music more than clicking a mouse on an mp3 file ever will.
I like stuff.
Call me a pack rat. That's fine. But there's something special about having kept the things of my childhood. Memories are one thing. But being about to physically hold those memories is another.
Some of the things I share here may bring back memories for you, provide you with a few minutes of mindless entertainment, or even bore you to tears -- but these are things that I remember, things that I like. Afterall, what really matters is what you like...not what you are like.
